Skin cancer surgery is indicated in patients who have suspicious skin lesions that need a biopsy or those with already established diagnosis of skin cancer.
Skin biopsy is always a local anaesthetic day-case office procedure. Surgery for established skin cancer can be performed either as a local anaesthetic or general anaesthetic, depending on size and location of skin cancer as well as complexity of reconstruction required. Dr Damir will discuss various reconstructive techniques, depending on his patients’ individual circumstance.
Dr Damir will make every effort to minimize and conceal skin cancer surgery scars, depending on body part affected by skin cancer.
Most patients are discharged the same or next day and advised to avoid any strenuous physical activity for 6 weeks. Wounds should be kept dry for the first 2 weeks after surgery. After that very gentle scar massage with ointment is recommended daily.
